Heaven or Hell, You Decide

Have you ever heard the phrase “hell week”? Could have heard about it during midterms or finals week, if you’re in college. Where everyone is stressed out, frustrated, and may have procrastinated their work. You also could hear about it for Greek organizations. Remember that feeling, now imagine if hell week was forever and there was no way of escaping it. We all think we go through hell in our lives but have we suffered enough for our actions?

Hell is real and Heaven is real but let me clear up some myths about the two. Just because you are a good person does not mean you will automatically go to Heaven. (Mark 10:17-18) Good works are not a way to get into heaven. Acceptance into heaven is based on believing in God, accepting Him into your heart, and Living for Him (Romans 8:23).

Hell is not anything we have experienced before; it is not a continuation of what is occurring in the world today. The bible tells us there will be weeping, darkness, torment, fiery flames, and everlasting punishment (Revelation 14:11). If this does not scare you, imagine your greatest fear repeating forever. Heaven is where the party of everlasting praise and worship erupts. There are no tears, suffering, fear, or disease. The streets are paved with gold for goodness sake.

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Revelation 21:4

Heaven is a paradise-like no other. The only entrance is through God himself, not through good works or any earthy satisfactions. Eternal life starts the day you accept Jesus into your heart. Your life becomes His life, and His life becomes yours (Galatians 2:20). Our attitudes, behaviors, and actions change when we truly live for him. The world creates imitate gratification, but the word of God creates eternal satisfaction.

We must get our minds right today! Life can happen at any time and can be taken from us in an instant. If you are reading this in 2020, how did you react to hear the news about Chadwick Boseman passing? No one was warned, there was not one indication that this headline would be showing up on your device. I did not believe it at first, I just finished working out and since I was out of breath, I thought I read it wrong! Total shock and sadness overcame me, and all I said was, “for real 2020”.

Let us not be a standby believer and allow convenience to be a frontrunner. Let us be proactive in the word and live truly for God today. If you asked yourself truthfully “If I die today, will I make it into heaven?”. Not everyone will have an easy answer to that question. God has given each of us a choice. We are free to make it but we must live with the consequences of our actions. Make the myth disappear and believe the message of Christ’s love. We are dying of thirst but until we sip the goodness of God’s grace and live for Him today, we will never see eternity!

Questions to ask yourself

Have you ever come close to death?

What would you do if you had 1 week to live?

Does your life reflect Jesus or the world?
